Meet Waheeda

Tell us a bit about yourself
I've lived in Bath for over a decade, since I met my husband - I refer to myself as the Wife of Bath. I'm a support worker and tutor for vulnerable adults with varying disabilities. In my spare time, I do a lot of drama and improvisation. I'm a trustee of a local charity that supports females on the autistic spectrum - Auti-Ms.

What inspired you to join Bath Women's Fund?

I was looking at 'charity events in Bath' online and saw that the Women's Fund was hosting an event for International Women's Day. I went along and was impressed by the speakers (and Emma and Isobel, of course!) I'd never heard of a giving circle before, but I thought that the Women's Fund aligned with my values. I joined in 2022 and have participated in many events since.

What are the issues that you are most passionate about?

Neurodiversity in women and girls. Inclusivity. Reducing food waste. Women's health, including self-care and wellbeing.

What would you be most interested in learning about as a Bath Women's Fund member?

I'm interested in learning more about any of the topics that I mentioned being passionate about! As a charity trustee, I'd love to make links with other charities or individuals that support women. Particularly ones connected with disability or neurodiversity.

What is your favourite place/thing to do in and around Bath?

I love eating out in Bath and visiting places linked to Bath-based female writers. The Jane Austen Centre and the House of Frankenstein, to give examples. I feel proud and privileged to live in such a beautiful, historic city.
