Meet Marsha
Tell us a bit about yourself
I am a people person, love good books, good food, the sunshine, music and dancing (not always in that order!). I moved to the area ten years ago with my family, after living in Spain. My background is in education and safeguarding - and I am the founding director of Mighty Girls CIC - a not for profit organisation that runs groups and creative workshops to support girls' wellbeing and confidence.
What inspired you to join Bath Women's Fund?
I believe in the power of community and that people are their own experts. A Giving Circle like Bath Women's Fund seemed like a dynamic way of contributing to help projects locally - to help people help themselves. I heard about if from a colleague and just had to get involved.
What are the issues that you are most passionate about?
I am really passionate about fairness and inclusion, specifically for gender equality. I am particularly keen to advocate for girls having a kinder experience as they navigate the teen years. There are so many issues intersecting - but most of them come down to more meaningful and effective education around relationships, health and wellbeing. With less that 2% of all national charitable funding going to groups specifically for women and girls, I am also passionate about funding reaching girls and young women's projects and activities.
What would you be most interested in learning about as a Bath Women's Fund member?
I am keen to find out more about the different organisations supporting and empowering girls in the Bath, and looking at ways to support all girls in Bath feel like they belong, have a valuable opinion and can find solutions to their challenges.
What is your favourite place/thing to do in and around Bath?
My perfect day would be a long walk in the hills and wooded areas along the skyline, followed by a relaxed lunch in one of the cities restaurants or pubs. I particularly like to visit Walcot House and The Bell on Walcot Street.
